I haven’t written a full-on blog post since I’ve been in college, which seems kinda funny considering I have grown immensely over the last couple months–or rather through this entire year.
But I’m here today, sipping on some coffee, getting over a nasty virus, ready to share with you all my latest & greatest moments and lessons from this over-the-top-year.
.) You will fail, and your plans will get wrecked, but you will look back and be SO thankful–because the failures are just as much a part of God’s plan as the triumphs.
.) No matter what I do or how hard I try, I can’t survive life without taking naps often–very, very often.
.) Intentional me is my favorite. This is the first year I’ve really truly seen this trait present in myself and it’s a game-changer. Something I’m striving for even more in the future.
.) Sometimes ya just gotta love your neighbor in the annoying, inconvenient ways. I don’t think I’m the absolute best at this (I’m workin on it), but I know it’s valuable because of the ways people have loved me this past year– I’m very very grateful.
.) Home is a feeling: surrounding my dinner table with the rest of my family, walking just a door or a few down the hall to be with some of my most favorite people, driving down country roads in my hometown, sitting in Bellarmine Chapel for 10pm Mass, walking across the street to my grandparents house, and themed dinners in the dorm every other week are some of my most favorite homes from this year.
.) God’s timing——He’s got ya, I promise.
.) Put faith in yourself before giving other people the chance to put faith in you. Do it for you and for God’s plan–not just for the peeps watching.
.) Life is too short to not have frequent dance parties. Have them with your best friend, your neighbors, I don’t really care who–just have them. Life’s fun when you’re dancing like a weirdo.
.) You’re SERIOUSLY selling yourself short if placing ALL your attention and focus on your job, schooling, etc. You’re called to make waves in so many places. Find purpose in your side hustle. Find purpose in your church. Find purpose in the stinkin’ grocery store, or wherever it may be. Just don’t wait around to be successful in one thing. Make waves in all you do. Don’t place yourself in a box. You’re bigger than that.
.) Remember that it takes a village–be sure to thank your village often.
.) Simply put: I have come to realize that my days are undoubtedly better & more peaceful when I make time for prayer–like true, intentional prayer. The “hey God”s and the quick intentions are great, don’t get me wrong, but from my experience this year growing in prayer–give God a little more than you’re used to. It is SO worth it.
.) Invest in you. You’re worth a lot & you got big things to do for this world. Fill yourself up. Take care of yourself.
.) Don’t get so caught up in life that you don’t notice the God winks.
.) Say hi to people in passing & ask how their day’s are–out of genuine care and concern. Think about how many people we see on a regular basis & imagine if we let each of them know we were invested in their lives. That’s a pretty cool opportunity we’re given, so let’s be ones who care.
.) Take the dang leap. Don’t wait until you accomplish that one goal or become that one age or get that one job or do that one thing. Do. It. Now.
.) It’s up to us to keep our lives from becoming crowded with distraction which is way too easy to do. It’s been a big thing for me recently: working on simplifying, decluttering, decreasing screen time, and being more intentional with my time.
.) Always thought I was an extrovert but this year made me think otherwise– whether I am or not, I know one thing. Time to refuel is key. Whatever that means for you. For me it’s often a trip to the chapel, some worship music, a cup of coffee & looking out the window, or a nap. Let me tell you—-good, good stuff.
.) Make yourself a you-er you every stinkin day. You are incredible.
Have the happiest New Year! I have a good feeling about 2019. Thanks for being you!
