There isn’t a single person on this planet that hasn’t felt the crumminess of comparison.
It’s not a fun thing, but I think it is a normal thing because c’mon, we all naturally want to BE better. There’s no shame in admitting that–in fact, it’s probably a good thing we aren’t 100% satisfied with where we are.
There’s this really funny balance and I think it’s hard in today’s world to get it right:
I fully believe that we should never feel 100% comfortable. There’s a lot of growth that happens in our constant strive for more, and I think we are selling ourselves short by letting contentment scoop us up where we are at.
On the other hand, we should never look at others and in turn, feel uncomfortable about ourselves.
I have stumbled over the line and spent time being bitter on both sides. Let me tell ya–although I’m certain you’ve felt it first-hand too–neither side of the line is fun nor where we’re called to be.
I think many of the times we fall into contentment is because comparison is easier when we’re striving for something.
If I give 0 cares about getting in shape, perfect, I don’t have to think about it. The second I want to amp up my game, work hard, and get in shape, though? I’ll turn my head to look to the person next to me in the gym, the fitness blogger I follow on Instagram, and every other person who can gracefully do a sit-up unlike myself.
Like seriously, who’s with me?! It’s a freakin struggle. Butttttt–it’s a struggle for all of us. Which means… let’s allllll take a minute & find what it’s going to take to stop letting comparison AND contentment creep into our lives.
Life is hard enough, we need to be cheerleaders, standing side-by-side with every girl we see, helping them reach the place they want to be.
Really jealous of someone & wish you could be where she’s at in some way? Pray for her.
One of your friends has a super healthy relationship & you’re single as a pringle? Be genuinely happy for her.
See someone else striving for the same exact thing that you’re striving for? Join her & do it together.
Wherever you are, whatever you’re striving for, nobody has got you beat–and you’re the only person who can hold YOU back.
All comparisons aside, I’m cheering you on & I hope you cheer yourself (and the ladies around you) on this week (and always).
