After a month or so of putting it off, I finally called in to make an appointment to talk to a counselor back home.
(This was the third different counselor I’ve talked to & all of them have been a GREAT experience).
So I excitedly walked in there for my appointment & was ready to get to work on figuring my junk out. (Yea girl, we all have junk).
I spilled all of my recent life shenanigans (dropping out of school & all that fun stuff), then went on to share the internal stuff that was tripping me up during this season of life. That’s the funny thing about all the junk we go through… sometimes it isn’t a death or failure or heartbreak, sometimes it’s just on the inside bottling up for only us to see. & that hurts worse sometimes.
I told her I’d be home for a few more months. She went on to look at me & excitedly said: “alright, we have a few months to do some really good work, we’re gonna figure out how you can be your own best friend.”
It hit me like a train at that moment… ladies, we SUCK at being supporters & BFF’s to ourselves.
So I began brainstorming all the ways that I could better believe in myself–because good lordddd there’s a whole lot of power in how we treat & speak to ourselves.
Here’s what I found I struggle with:
I seek affirmations & approval from others rather than from myself & the Lord.
I let my struggles become bigger and more overwhelming than they actually are.
I dwell on the mess-ups & should-haves.
Wowza, those are 3 things that I’m doing in my everyday life that are HOLDING ME BACK from my very very best & happiest life.
It’s one thing to be held back by others. We can’t always control if our friends or parents or peers will support us and cheer us on, but we CAN control how we cheer ourselves on.
So here’s what we’re gonna do to inch closer to becoming our very own, #1 fans in all that we do (& it literally takes 5 minutes, so you have NO excuse not to do ittttttt). Andddd, I included pics of when I did this for myself so you can see firsthand how to make it work for you!
My struggles ^
^^not for long!
I think a huggggge step in cheering ourselves on & becoming our own fan is just to recognize the things that are getting in the way of us actually doing that. By taking these little steps, we’re knocking these excuses outta the way & inching closer to becoming a better friend to ourselves.
Are you taking the leap & doin’ this thang?! Show me your sticky notes!!!!! Throw it on the gram & tag me. We all could use it, amiright?!
