You have gifts. You have skills. You have natural talents. You were born with a light that no one around you was born with. So why the heckkk aren’t you letting it shine?
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” 1 Peter 4:10
You were perfectly & specifically designed to do what God has called you to do.
In today’s culture, we can get so wrapped up in the women surrounding us. We spend more time looking at their lives than we do our own. We are constantly finding “flaws” in ourselves only because we are looking to people who are different than us and expecting to be the same. The truth is, you can’t own your gifts and use them well if you are distracted by hers.
HOW in the heck do we defeat this game of comparison!?
HOW do we put our blinders up to step into our talents and not try to mock everyone else’s?
Pull out your phone right now and go to your settings. Look to see how much time you spend scrolling through Instagram. Now take a second to take an inventory of how much time you spend in God’s word, or in worship. Hard truth? I feel that. I’m there with you. But how are we supposed to step into our talents if we don’t spend time with the one who gifted them to us? How can we make a change & fix this gap?
God did not give us unique gifts so we could keep them for ourselves. A large part of stepping into our God-given purpose is using our abilities to serve others. Where can you get involved today that will make a difference in someone else’s life? By demonstrating our gifts in service to others, God changes us to become more like him. And isn’t that EXACTLYYYY what we’re after?! Yup.
I think sometimes we get it twisted. We think we are the show instead of a part of the show. Let me explain. In Romans 12, Paul talks about how we are all part of the body of Christ, but we have different functions. Your hand cannot function the same as your eye, just like you can’t function the same way as your bestie. When we understand our gifting is different than the girl next to us we can step fully into our own journey. It’s a relief to know we don’t have to do it all, so let’s stop acting like we should be able to.
You wanna know the best part of having different gifts and talents? Our strengths give us the role, but our weakness gives us a team. When we are confident in who God called us to be, we can better collaborate with those around us. Beyond that, we are NOTTT called to downplay our gifts: own them, grow in them and use them well! Your journey is your own. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
