I know you are watching your friends get to the stages of life you’ve always thought you’d be at by this point. You thought you were going to know exactly what you should do after college. You thought you were going to have met the guy of your dreams or move to the city you always thought you would’ve. It’s not easy to experience the hurt of unmet expectations. But I just want you to remember that’s exactly what they are. These dreams we always thought we would see through are unmet expectations. Worldly standards and timelines that we have for ourselves are not guaranteed. Somewhere along the way, we’ve forgotten that our lives are not meant to be lived for ourselves but for the glory of God. There are a few things we want you to remember when pursuing Jesus in the midst of unmet expectations:
Not only should you trust him, but you have the opportunity to do so. Oftentimes it’s when we have nothing to depend on but God that we truly grow deeper in our faith. Moreover, waiting on God’s timing is NOT wasting yours. His plan is in progress, don’t rush it because you want instant gratification.
“Those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord have not forsaken those who seek you” Psalm 9:10
Remember that the women who are living in the places you thought you’d be in are not your enemy. There is a lot we can learn from forming relationships with people who are in different seasons of life than us. Building up bitterness toward her will not do anything good for you in return. Cheer her on. Support her.
“And let us consider how to stir one another up in love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25
Keep pursuing Jesus. Quickly His desires for your life will become yours and He will fulfill them. However while you are here in the in-between, continue to trust His plan and live in community.
God isn’t standing still, He just might be moving in a different way than you thought He would. Watch His moves & rejoice in all that is coming your way.
